U.S. Senate Vote Brings EEOC Quorum
Hurry up and wait. I was just asked Tuesday morning, October 7th, during one of my presentations at the Maryland SHRM State Conference, “When do you think the EEOC will have a quorum?” That afternoon we had the answer.
The U.S. Senate voted 51-47 to confirm the nomination of Brittany Panuccio to be a member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for a term expiring July 1, 2029. What can we expect now?
Based on some of the Commission’s prior communications, announcements, and others’ speculation we might anticipate:
- Changes to the “Know Your Rights: Workplace Discrimination…” workplace poster (dated 6/27/23)
- Updates to the “Enforcement Guidance on Harassment in the Workplace“
- Modifications to the “Pregnant Workers Fairness Act” regulations suggested per Commissioner Lucas’ objections last year
- And enforcement of shifting priorities already announced by the agency including protecting American workers from anti-American national origin discrimination and Protecting Women in the Workplace.
So, stay tuned; it looks like there is more to come!
