Form I-9 Deadline: Must Use New Form Eff. May 1st
Effective May 1, 2020, employers must use the new 10/21/19 edition of the Form I-9. You can find the edition date at the bottom of the page on the form and instructions. Click here for the current edition.
In April, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) also published a new “Handbook for Employers.” Click here for the latest edition.
Tip: If you have Spanish-speaking employees, you may have wondered, “Can my employees complete the Spanish version of the Form I-9.” Only employers and employees in Puerto Rico can complete the Spanish version of Form I-9. Spanish-speaking employers and employees in the 50 states and other U.S. territories may print the Spanish version for their reference, but must complete the form in English to meet employment eligibility verification requirements.
