OSHA Publishes Fact Sheet on Opioid Overdose Rescue in the Workplace

It strikes me as sad that we need guidance on this. Having said that, I appreciate the support provided by the U.S. DOL to help employers and employees facing related challenges.  On September 24th, the U.S. Department of Labor announced, “New Workplace Guidance to Prepare Employers, Workers for Opioid Emergencies.”

The U.S. DOL explains that the President has charged the agency with “making recovery part of our workforce strategy, helping more individuals return to work and ensuring our businesses have the workers they need.” In response, OSHA has published a fact sheet recommending, “Managers, supervisors, and employees should know what to do if someone experiences an overdose at work. Training and education can prepare workers and the community on how to prepare and respond to opioids in the workplace. Having opioid overdose reversal medications (OORMs) on hand can save lives.”

The fact sheet then provides more information, including how employers can obtain and maintain the medications, as well as educate employees in their accessibility and use. Click here to access the fact sheet.
