Walters’ Testifies on MD SB 40 – A (Paid) Leave Mandate

Ms. Walters testified on behalf of the Maryland SHRM State Council, Inc. and in conjunction with the Maryland Chamber of Commerce to oppose this legislation, which mandates leave, paid or unpaid for all Maryland employers. The mandate covers employers with nine or fewer employees who would be required to offer unpaid leave. The leave would have to be provided for part-time employees working at least eight hours per week as well as full time employees. Employer would be required to permit certain paid leave to roll over from year to year.  The fiscal note indicates the bill would have a “significant” impact on small business to the tune of an average of $416 per employee.
