Lucky 13! US CIS Extends Form I-9 Flex Rule Again!
On April 25th and for at least the 13th time since its inception in March 2020, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (US CIS) announced it is again extending the Form I-9 Flexibility Rule. This time, the extension is through October 31, 2022.
You may recall a prior article about some hints that the federal agencies was considering making this rule permanent (regular is probably a better word). Click here for a quick recap of the rule as of March 2021.
Despite the extension, note that the agency writes, “Employers are encouraged to begin, at their discretion, the in-person verification of identity and employment eligibility documentation for employees who were hired on or after March 20, 2020, and who presented such documents for remote inspection…”
In the meantime, put a tickler on your calendar to see if this will be the last extension.
