Federal Agencies Prepare for Expiration of COVID-19 PHE Status
You may recall that back on February 9th, the Health and Human Services Department announced that the Public Health Emergency (PHE) declared for COVID-19 would “expire at the end of the day on May 11, 2023.” The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 to be a PHE on January 30, 2020, and a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
Most states will likely follow that lead if they have not already let their own declarations expire. Note that you will still need to follow any state or local law that provides your employees with a greater benefit, such as in states that have a law prohibiting employers from requiring a COVID-19 vaccination, as Idaho recently enacted.
